We entered the track at NASCAR Turn 2
I was able to ride in two morning sessions and one afternoon sessions. Each session was 6 laps. After the 2nd session, I was in the right place at the right time to go back on the track with a film crew video taping the event. I got to go around countless laps during this ride, though slower to accomodate camera crew. The camera guy was on the back of another cycle, and they were going up and down the line of riders.
The last session, I was told, though it was not a race, passing was allowed. But don't pass the Leader, that's why they call him the Ride Leader. The Ride Leader knew good lines through the corners, so I wanted to follow the Leader. The first warm up lap, someone passed everyone up to the leader. By now, I was pretty comfortable with the bike, so the next lap, I passed everyone up to the guy following the leader. The next lap was fun, the top three were pretty tight. The next lap the rider between me and the leader, motioned me to pass. I thought I was giving him plenty of room, but maybe he wasn't comfortable with me right on his ass. Passing him on the outside of the East Horseshoe, my rear wheel lost traction for a moment, but I accellerated out of it (when in doubt, gas it out). After that, the leader opened up the pace, and I was thrilled to keep up. The Ride Leader only pulled away from me bad, in one place, the same place I lost traction before. I was being safe, but soon discovered the grip was better on the inside. I kept up with the leader for the rest of the fast laps. That's why I'm grinning from ear to ear.
